BIOGRAPHIES ETC...
It all started around 1993, When Paul (Sarg) and Jim decided to start a band. Nothing really happened
for the first 2 years, with a basic line-up of Jim Mycroft (Guitar), Paul Sarginson (Drums), Simon Matley
(Rhythm Guitar) and Andrew Prideaux (Bass) and various frontmen. The style then was a mixture of Bon-jovi
rock,Queen style vocal harmonies (still noticeable in the current format) basically they were a couple
of years out of date. The change came in 1995 when a chance meeting threw Jim and Andy Sharkey (Vocals)
together, Some sort of audition followed and within a few months the changes were noticeable. The name
was the first thing to go, Likewize became Cave Canem (hey they were young and impressionable), Gigs
were few and songs were bad!!, Simon went off to university,Britpop hit the charts and Cave Canem had
to get up to date..... The first interest came in the guise of a barrister in Ashton-Under-Lyne, after
seeing a charity gig at a local club he approached them with a management offer, Studio time was booked,
Cave Canem became Groopie (for a day) and then Eventually Aroma. The music now had a more bouncy, fun
and melodic feel, a change which was definitely needed. The management fizzled out, mainly due to other
commitments. Aroma went on writing better, more original songs. Financed further studio time with dozens
of gigs (mainly as a covers band), through an entertainment agency, which led to the Manchester Evening
News: Search for a star competition, where they reached the finals, only to be beaten by a contestant
who never won his own heat! and had already been signed to Pete Waterman`s PWL label (Mr.Waterman happened
to be the head of the judges panel....?!) This is where the band realised that "getting signed" wasn't
going to be easy. A new demo was recorded and sent to countless companies, Radio interviews and more
gigs followed. Meanwhile a new contact had been made with a Bradford Nightclub owner, John Pennington.
After making his interest known after a gig at the nightclub the ball was well and truly rolling.......and
so it continues to. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open in the next 12 months!
